The Fake Escrow Scam
A seller claims they are deployed in the military or out of town and offers to ship the car using a "secure" escrow service (often impersonating eBay). This is always a scam. Never wire money for a car you haven't seen in person.
Title Washing
Scammers buy salvaged cars and transfer the title across state lines to "wash" the brand off the title. Always run a Carfax or AutoCheck using the VIN to see the true history.
Curbstoning
Dealers posing as private sellers to avoid regulations and sell problem cars. If a seller has 5+ cars listed, or their name doesn't match the title, walk away.
